It's a wonderful life...not so much for Kermit the Frog The Muppets star in another one of their Christmas flicks this time doing the Gregory Peck holiday classic directed by Kirk Thatcher Co-star celebrities include David Arquette, Whoopi Goldberg, William H. Macy l, Mathew Lillard, Joan Cusack, Kelly Ripa, Molly Shannon, and Mel Brooks Kermit is having a mid-life crisis; he's not feeling the spirit of the holidays as much as he should After all the theater he and his friends have been fighting to save is closing up So a Christmas Angel comes down from above to help him But when Kermit makes a wish that he was never born it comes true The movie strangely takes 50 min for the plot to get moviing, you could've cut out the explaining a lot from the start and we would've gotten the gist of it Still the filmmakers manage to insert a lot of inside jokes and pop cultural references of other Christmas classics from The Grinch to Rankin & Bass to Scrubs to Fear Factor to Moulin Rouge to Steve Irwin The other half of this is so much better it's a shame it takes so long at the beginning The conflict gets solved a bit too easily too But Kermit learns to reevaluate what's most precious to him and realize one person such as him makes a big difference in many lives Shows that Christmas is more than just money or a building, people need to know what matters, and we don't need outside intervention to make things perfect This could've been better but it's still a harmless watch enough to earn a mild recommendation

I'll admit, I've never been particularly into the Muppets. It's not that I don't like them, I just never really had an opportunity to get interested. So I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this Christmas special. It's got really clever dialogue and thankfully I didn't have to know anything about the Muppets to enjoy it. It riffs off of basically every Christmas-movie trope there is, sometimes more directed at specific movies than others, but it's always hilarious. In some ways it feels like a sketch comedy movie, where there's a loose overall plot but it's the smaller, individual scenes that drive the humor of the movie. It's stuffed with fun cameos and honestly I have no idea how they convinced so many famous people to be in this movie. It drags a little bit in the middle (like a lot of sketch comedy movies, or really even a lot of comedy movies in general), but for a "kid's" movie, it's really quite funny and has a lot of humor for adults to appreciate. brb, adding this one to my Christmas classics list.

Despite having the Muppets and a Christmas theme, It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie is missing the magic of the holiday season. It seems this half-hearted television special hoped the crammed-in cameos would make up for the lackluster story. Kermit is too mean-spirited and the jokes almost all fall flat. It's difficult to hate a Muppet movie, but I definitely didn't like this one.
